Good settings for the web

For a page shown about 800–1,000 px wide on a site, 100–150 DPI is plenty (US Letter at 120 DPI is 1,020 px wide). Quality 80% is a sensible starting point for WebP. Serve 2× versions for sharp retina display by rendering at double the DPI.

Browser support

WebP encoding uses your browser’s built-in encoder. Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari 16+ create WebP; very old Safari versions silently produce PNG instead — check the file extension of the result.

Questions

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. pdf.js, the PDF engine used by Firefox, runs inside this page and draws each page on a canvas in your browser. The file never leaves your device.

What DPI should I choose?

150 DPI for sharing and reading on screens, 200 for crisp text, 300 for printing at actual size. 600 is for archiving and is capped by the browser’s canvas limit on large pages.
